The metrics framework for 90-day GEO
Traditional SEO metrics — organic traffic, keyword rankings, domain authority — do not directly capture AI visibility progress. You need a parallel measurement system.
Foundation metrics (Month 1)
- Entity consistency score — audit your Name, Address, Phone, and category across all platforms. Target: zero discrepancies.
- Schema validation — run the Schema.org validator and the Google Rich Results Test. Target: zero errors, zero warnings.
- Google Business Profile completeness — measure against every available field. Target: 100%.
- Baseline AI visibility audit score — run 10–15 test queries across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini. Document exactly what each engine returns. This is your benchmark for every future measurement.
Content metrics (Month 2)
- New authority pages published — target two per month minimum.
- AI citation rate — of your test queries, what percentage now cite your own content vs. competitors?
- Internal link depth — does your content hub have meaningful cross-links between related articles?
Reputation metrics (Month 3)
- Review velocity — new reviews per month across all platforms.
- Review specificity — what percentage of reviews mention specific services, outcomes, or staff by name? (More specific = more citable by AI engines.)
- Third-party mention growth — new external sites referencing your business name, category, and location.
The quarterly re-audit
At the end of 90 days, re-run your full baseline audit using the same query set. The key questions:
- Has my visibility audit score improved?
- Am I appearing in category and problem queries I was not in before?
- Are AI engines citing my own content rather than competitors?
- Has my entity been resolved in all four major engines?
